Thanks to Steve Paulson for typing these easy to follow guidelines for slides from digital files:
SLIDES FROM DIGITAL FILES
Members who would like to compete in slide competition using their digital files can have those files converted to film slide by Larry Crabb. To have this done the files must be made to conform to specific sizes. I shall attempt to provide this info below.
2x2 Slides
1. The finished file must measure 2732 pixels by 4096 pixels and be saved in TIFF format.
2. Full frame slides may be created by opening the image in Photoshop and go to Image>Size and then changing the pixel count to the numbers above. You may have to un-check the maintain aspect ratio or proportion setting.
3. If the slide is to be cropped in any manner set one of the dimensions to either of the two dimensions above and then use the Image>Size>Canvas size to increase the remaining dimension to the required size. The background color should be black when doing this in order to obtain an opaque area outside the image area.
4. To finish your slide be sure the long dimension lays across the screen just as it would in a camera. Even if it is a vertical it needs to be turned for the film recorder to capture the entire image. Prior to saving do “Flatten Layer” if you have used layers to create the image. Us “Save As” what ever you wish to name the image and save it as a TIFF file.
Burn to CD for Larry.
2-1/4 Slides
1. The finish file must be 6087 pixels x 6087 pixels and saved in TIFF format.
2. Normal digital camera images will require some cropping to make them square, but you can make full frame images as well by setting one dimension ( use method above) to 6087 pixels and then use the Canvas Size to fill in the remaining area to 6087 pixels.
3. Prior to saving do “Flatten Layer” if you have used layers to create the image. Use “Save As” whatever you wish to name your image and save as a TIFF format and then burn to CD for Larry.
NOTE: Larry plans to create the slides in November, so please have your CD’s to him by the last meeting in October.

DIGITAL PANORAMIC SLIDES
Digital Panoramic Slides will not be judged in N4C since they divided the open digital slide class into Nature & Pictoral. We may wish to continue in club contest in months alternating with 2-1/4 slide competition. These must measure 2048 on the long dimension and not to exceed 682 pixels on the narrow dimension. Naming should used as above for the nature Panoramic or Pictorial Panoramic PICTORAL AN

Thanks to Steve Paulson for typing these easy to follow guidelines for Digital competition submission:
DIGITAL PICTORAL & NATURE SLIDES FOR N4C
SLIDE SIZE: The digital slides need to measure 1024 pixels in their longest dimension. A full frame slide will usually measure about 688 pixels on the short dimension. This is easily done in Photoshop by opening the image and performing Image> Size and changing the pixel count on the long dimension at the top of the box. Use “Save As” to save your digital image with its name ( I’ll cover this next) as a JPEG file with a 10 level of compression.
SLIDE NAMING: Name your slide as follows;
A. Pictorial Slides 01,SE000(your member number),DP,Name_of_Image.jpg
Pictorial Example: 01,SE030,DP,Hillary_and_Bill.jpg
B. NatureSlides 01,Se000(your member number),DN,Name_of_Image.jpg
Nature Example: 01,SE030,DN,Spearfish_Falls_in_ Rain
C. NOTE: NO BLANK SPACES IN THE ENTIRE FILE NAME!
Digital Slides are now being used for club points accumulation and we as members of SCCC need to provide monthly entries in this category. We are allowed as a club to enter a total of 8 pictoral and 8 nature slide in monthly competion. One image per maker in each category. Please email you slides to me by the 13th of the month at F64JEE@aol.com

I wanted to let your Camera Club know that this year's Entry Form can now be found online at http://www.iowastatefair.org/competition/pdfs/07Photo.pdf. Hopefully, it will be easier for people to simply print off the forms themselves. Photographers who have entered in the past will still receive the official Entry Form in the mail.
The deadline for entering this year is July 1st. Normally, we take entries the weekend after the 4th of July. However, this year the Good Guys Hot Rod show will be the weekend after the 4th. People can bring their photos to the Cultural Center on June 30th and July 1st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. People can also have their photos shipped to us and we will return them by mail if they will include enough return postage.
One thing that people will notice this year is that we removed the postcard from the Entry Form. We switched the form from 11x14 inches to 8 1/2x11 inches so that it would make it easier for people to print off the forms online. The photographers will still receive a postcard in the mail to let them know if they made it in the show or not.
Let me know if you have any questions.
